Pizza, baptisms and street preachers

Hello everyone,

It sound really hot back home. (102 degrees)  I didn't know that cups could melt like that. (The plastic drinking cups at a mission farewell open house for one of his good friends were warped because of the heat.)  Thanks for the pictures that you sent.  They are cool.  It is nice to see everyone.

So this week was cool.  Last Monday,  we found Lucky Charms for 10 cedis at a super market.  I bought 2 of them.  There was also Cherrios but I really didn't want them.  Adams and I also found Frosted Flakes for 7.50 cedis so we bought some of those too.  American cereal has been sweet.  We have to use powdered milk though.  It is just not the same as a cold jug of milk.  We don't make a lot and refrigerate it.  It is just easier to mix it and use it than to chill it.  It doesn't taste very good.

The week has been nice.  Our contacting was slower this week because the sisters were having baptism interviews that we had to go to. But it was cool.  We were able to see some of our progressing investigators and yesterday, we had the baptism of Sister F--.  She was nervous but after the service, she was really happy about it.  During the service, we were in the Relief Society room and there were only about 10 members who stayed for it.  I felt a little disapointed about the lack of support, but I then had a distinct feeling that not one of those seats behind us were empty, that everyone was filled.  That spirits from her family and even Makuni's and mine were there watching the service.  It was a really comforting feeling.
Baptism!

Today, we had a district activity at a pizza place.  Adams and I shared a pizza and calzone because neither of our comps wanted some.  It was strange, they were the one's wanting an activity, but they didn't really participate in it.  It was us and the sisters talking and eating.  But I had fun.

Earlier this week,  we were all rudely awakened by a street preacher.  He set up his speakers full blast right across from our apartment an hour before my alarm went off.  I got up and got my ear plugs and stuck my head under a pillow.  It muffled the sound small but not much.  I got a little more sleep after that.  The guy spoke Twi for 2 hours.  None of us were happy about it.  We couldn't even hear another person speak inside the house.  Crappy.

We got a referral from a RM for one of his friends that had taught him about 3 years ago, but he didn't understand the message.  He is now wanting us to teach him.  He is excited about learning now.  We are excited for him.

The Bibiani district showed up uninvited at Family Home Evening at the bishop's house for food last week and to spend the night with us.  The bishop wasn't expecting four more people.  Even Elder Verdoni wasn't happy with his district.  I didn't get any sleep that night.  They are talking about doing it again next week.  It isn't fair for the bishop or for us. We are going to tell them to come Tuesday night till Wednesday instead of Sunday and staying till Wednesday.  When I was in Obuasi, we just came up on Wednesday and went back the same day.  We didn't have to spend the night anywhere.

We will be meeting the new mission president on Friday.  I think he is just seeing the zones and probably not interviewing.

I hope all of you have a good week. For the 4th of July we will sing patriotic songs in our apartment.

   Love you all.
Love, Elder Warner Ashby
This is a fruit that he called an African apple.
He said it is really sweet.
