Hey everyone,
So this week was cool.
On Wednesday I went on Exchange with Elder Vause. It was cool to be with an American again. Someone who understands things you talk about. It was fun. Before we left, we had to carry a large garbage bag about a quarter of a mile down the street to a large rubbish pile because no one is taking our garbage away. Unfortunately the bag was also dripping and tearing. We made it half way before it was impossible to carry any further. We tried to ask a car to help us down the road, but he wanted 5 cedis, so we sent him on his way. Not paying for something that simple. Everyone thinks we are rich so they raise the price. But a lady gave us a box and we carried the box the rest of the way. When we got there, we were covered in mud and stunk to high heaven. We went home and showered.
On Saturday, we helped a member who is being sacked from his home, pour concrete into a house he is building. Once they learned that Vause and I could actually do manual labor, they let us help. Vause and Abu-bonsra mixed the cement and I pushed the wheelbarrow into the house. It was good work and the member was really happy.
My companion got his call this week. The APs wanted him to serve for another transfer, so he called home and they said his call was in and he leaves on Sept, 17 for Nigeria. He is really happy. Unfortunately, he also has to leave
on Tuesday to get all his things prepared for the leave date. So
tomorrow, we will put him on a bus and say good bye. I have enjoyed working with him and will keep in touch with him on his mission. The other 3 of us will combine into a three-some and work both areas until the end of the transfer when I will get a new companion.
It looked like you had a good time with President and Sister Holmes. Elder Ward was my first ZL and later an AP. He is a cool guy.
(This last weekend I had the opportunity to visit with President and Sister Holmes while they were in Salt Lake City for some training for President Holmes' new calling. They are wonderful people and it was a great visit. Several returned elders from the Kumasi mission were there also. Elder Ward was one of these returned missionaries. I had the opportunity to ask them some questions about the areas. I was able to meet the parents of several of Elder Ashby's MTC group for the first time and loved my visit with them!)
So my time is almost up. I love you. Maybe I can send some pics next week.
Love you,
Elder Warner Ashby
