Hey everyone.
So you all have a lot of questions, so if I miss a few, sorry, I will try to get them.
This area compared to Obuasi both have ups and downs. Obuasi had less twi and more food. This area is smaller and has more members. Being in a branch, we did seem to get more help from members though than being in a ward.
(Obuasi was a branch) This area is sweet though. Many nice people.
Elder Cockrum is from Missouri and will be going home in a few weeks. He is cool. We get along great. We and Elder Bradley and Dekeye play games a lot. Elder Opio and Onen stay in their room a lot. No American restaurants, unless you want to go to a hotel and spend a fortune. Missionaries do go for special occasions. I do see Elder Snow, Verdoni and Vause a lot on Mondays at the internet cafe. Elder Lawson and Wilson are in different areas of Ghana. I haven't used my umbrella much yet and I flip flop on my Eccos and sandals depending on my mood that day.
I have had kenke 2 other times. I have come to know that there are different forms of kenke. All of them have different forms of bad, varying from edible to nasty. The best I have had was similar to bonku, just flavorless. I have gotten to like bonku. I want to learn how to make it so I can make it back home. I know it requires corn meal, but that is it.
As for my typical day, I wake up, shower and shave, make breakfast, usually pancakes these days. We buy pancake mix in town. Then personal and companion study, get dressed and leave. We buy lunch and come to the apartment around 1 or 2 and take our hour lunch break and then go back until 8 where we come back and eat dinner and play games until bed.
So, our baptism failed yesterday. The guy never came to his interview or church. We weren't happy, but Cockrum was really mad. He is tired of the unreliableness of the people and the crappy excuses we get. We do have a very sure baptism this week. A part member family who have a nonmember brother who will baptize this week. He is excited and another girl who stays there will baptize next week. We have another possibility for a baptism this week but we are not sure. It is a small girl who we have been teaching for a few months. We might be able to baptize her this week, if not next.
We had a district activity today. One of the sisters came up with an idea to have a popcorn making competition. She hid kernals and oil and sugar around the chapel and we split in teams and had to find them and build a fire and pop it. We lost. Our sugar caught fire and incinerated our corn. Oh well. It was still fun. The sisters made some fried rice afterward which we ate.
We have a zone conference on Wednesday. We will be with Elder Snow's zone, so it will be me, him and Verdoni there. Hopefully I will get the packages then. I finished my jar of peanut butter the other day and now I'm using ground nut paste. A not as good substitute, just mashed ground nuts, which are basically peanuts. I have mints and bacon left. I've been rationing that. I had a cold this week and the mints came in handy. I don't use the Bear Creek mixes too often. Just when I don't want to cook.
The cafe is usually reliable as for internet. It has a generator so power isn't a problem here, and the internet just dies when the company wants to be crappy, so skyping on Mother's day should be fine.
I hope you all have a great spring break. Love you all.
Love, Elder Warner Ashby
P.S. Sorry, but I am pretty sure that the computer I am sitting at is not a good one for viruses so no pics again.
