Yesterday we had a zone
activity, so we decided to email today. By the time we came home it was past 7. So much rain and traffic. Last week after we emailed we
went to a few places before we came home. I bought a large pack of
bacon that I think can last me until I go home. I am enjoying it right
now. Not long after we got home it started raining. It didn't stop
until Wednesday around noon. The rainy season keeps increasing. One week of rain will come in August I think. So, because of the rain, Tuesday was pretty much washed out. We just studied and talked and slept. When we left the chapel yesterday, we
apparently missed a large flood. Elder Samche told us about it. When
one week rain comes, we will get more pictures of it.
On Wednesday,
we had the final interview for our baptismal candidates. We spent the
rest of the week preparing our investigators for baptism. Saturday,
the baptism took place. It started 2 hours late, because we had no
presiding authority and no water. Elder Patrick did the baptisms in
about 2 feet of water. But it all went well. One person, the man I
talked up so much last week, got cold feet the night before and backed
out. His brother said that he is still investigating and wouldn't come.
So, we had 7 converts and 1 child of record. We will work on the man
some more and prepare him for next time. This week he started asking questions like when exactly did Jesus
visit the Nephites. We had actually already answered that same question the week before. I
drew a time line with approximate dates of the visit of Christ to the Americas and to Joseph Smith. He said he wants to know everything and we tried to
explain that that wasn't necessary that he will continue learning, but
he chose to wait. Probably the best for him. We now have a few more weeks to teach him
everything he wants to know.
On Thursday,
we had a zone meeting in town at the stake center. After the meeting,
we went with a few of the other elders to a place that made Ghana fufu
and other Ghanaian foods. It was expensive but tasted great. Reminded me
of being back in Ghana. Yesterday, we had a zone activity with the Kissy zone at their district center. We had a basketball and football
competition and then made fufu again. I played basketball and we beat
the other zone. The fufu was taking long so a few of us went out to
look for food to satisfy us while we waited. We found some small little
restaurant that made local food. It was nice. The activity was fun.
I got to see Elder Vause one last time before he goes. He leaves this
week to prepare for school. (Elder Vause is one of his MTC mates)
When we finish here we are going to go look for some cleaning supplies for the apartment. By the way, I forgot to say but Sarh Doe comes back tonight. We will be there to greet him. (The landlord of the compound who has been in Ghana recovering after his surgeries due to the bad car accident he was in). He will be in a wheel chair and I think that there will be someone to
assist him for awhile while he goes through physical therapy. I don't
know all that will go into it. He will be in the Miles old apartment
because his house is not wheelchair accessible.
I hope everyone has a great week. I love you all.
Love, Elder Warner Ashby
