Cut Power and Cut Watermelons

Hey everyone,

I hope that your Halloween was cool.  I didn't feel like Halloween here at all, but we still carved our watermelons.  They were sweet.  We put candles in and had the smell of cooked watermelon in the house for a while.  I will try to get a picture of the puddle we were by.  Sorry I didn't get a pic of the kids.  Large groups of kids and cameras are not really good mixtures.  They get more crazy. (From last weeks letter) As for the chicken bones, if you make a whole chicken, then I want the ribs.  They taste nice.  I think that the bones are softer here, but I can't really compare right now.  It is one of those things that I am waiting to find out.  I hear of RMs still eating the bones.  Elder Lindley is in denial about ever doing those things.  A no dairy diet is easy.  The only time I have powdered milk is with rice and milk and I use some sweetened condenced milk on my french toast sometimes and also in my oats.  Ghana doesn't have fresh milk.

Happy Halloween!

So on Thursday, the electricity company came and cut our power because no one has paid our bill for a while.  We gave one to the mission home and they brought the check the next day for us to pay.  It turns out that was August's bill and we still have never seen September's, so they printed the bill and we paid it. We will get reimbursed for it later.  They said that someone would come and reconnect our lights that day.  Nothing happened.  We called but still nothing.  Then on Saturday, our water finished because the pump was out.  So we had to have bucket showers and use the chapel bathrooms to shave and relieve ourselves. That was fun.  We had a zone football match today and afterward we went back to the offices and someone came with us to turn it on.  All he did was flip the breaker switch on the meter outside.  That was crappy.  We spent all that time getting him here to flip a switch.  If I knew, I would have done it myself.  Oh well.

I did a couple baptism interviews this week which was fun.  After the interviews,  Elder Lindley and I went back to the house to buy some stuff before the Sabbath and got stuck at a store because the rain just started coming down.  By the time we made it back to the house and started walking to our area, it was evening time.  That day was not very productive.  The zone leaders called me today and told me that President Cosgrave will be coming down on Wednesday to do our special interviews.  We will make sure that Rita is there and finish teaching her son so that they can baptize together on Sunday.  We still cannot find Kwame anywhere.  He has dropped of the face of the earth.  His phones are off and he is not at home.  The guy has become a ghost.

I love you all.  Have a great week.

Love, Elder Warner Ashby
